Apple (AAPL) has picked up a deal which should accelerate sales of its iPhone into a number of new countries. It a brilliant tie-up with Vodafone (VOD), Europe’s largest cellular carrier,
According to Reuters "Later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network," the British-based firm said.
Vodafone had lost out to O2 for handling sales of the iPhone in the UK, its home market. The new deal is a bit of revenge. A franchise in India is worth its weight in gold. South Africa, Australia, and Turkey are also large wireless markets.
The marriage should allow Apple to pass its sales goals for the end of this year and in early 2009.
