Tablet PC Sales To Rise 12-Fold By 2015 Driven By Apple iPad

Apple (AAPL) may make significantly more money from its new iPad that it has on any other product it has launched since 2001 when the iPod came to market.

Research firm iSuppli expects tablet sales to rise 12x by 2015. Apple is likely to keep a large portion of its market share even if it drops eventually below 50%.

Global shipments of tablets—a segment consisting of media tablets like Apple Inc.’s iPad as well as PC-type tablets—are set to rise to 242.3 million units in 2015…

The research firm claims that Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) powered Android tablets will help being new customers into the market, particularly beginning next year.

iSuppli also predicts that better and more fully featured smartphones will fight table PCs for market shares

Similar claims were made about netbooks two years ago. They never can true. Predicting future consumer electronics behavior is nearly impossible when a new class of machines comes to market almost every year
