Motorola Gets Favorable Patent Ruling Against Apple (MMI, GOOG, AAPL)
Published:
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) today ruled in favor of Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. (NYSE: MMI) — soon to complete its acquisition by Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) — in a trade case claiming that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) had violated four Motorola patents in the iPhone and iPad products. Motorola is seeking a ban on imports of the devices into the US.
Today’s ruling is related to a Motorola patent related to Wi-Fi technology and is subject to review by the full ITC. Apple challenged the validity of all four patents involved in this case. Apple is already appealing an ITC decision it lost in October 2010 seeking to block imports of Motorola smartphones that use Google’s Android operating system.
