AT&T to Bring Ultra-Fast Network to More Cities

AT&T wants to expand its highest-speed network to 100 cities, and these 25 are the first batch to be considered: Atlanta, Augusta, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Worth, Greensboro, Houston, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Oakland, Orlando, St. Louis, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose.
The process is just getting started in most locations according to the company:
AT&T will work with local leaders in these markets to discuss ways to bring the service to their communities. Similar to previously announced metro area selections in Austin and Dallas and advanced discussions in Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem, communities that have suitable network facilities, and show the strongest investment cases based on anticipated demand and the most receptive policies will influence these future selections and coverage maps within selected areas.
AT&T has dubbed the service “U-verse with GigaPower,” which the company says will provide Internet speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second, “super-fast” Wi-Fi speeds and faster speeds for videoconferencing, file sharing and backup. The company rolled out the service in December for “tens of thousands” of households in Austin and its neighboring communities.
