2012 Chevy ColoradoGeneral Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the company is recalling 119,000 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles built in model years 2010 to 2012. The company said that the vehicles may have been assembled without the required secondary hood latch.

A secondary latch may be required to keep the hood closed in the event that the first latch fails to prevent the hood from flying open unexpectedly. GM said its first notice of the missing latch came in late September this year. The company did not report any accidents related to the missing latch.

Customers will get a letter from GM in mid-January with instructions on how to inspect the hood to determine if the latch is missing, or they will be able to take it to a dealer for inspection. If the latch is missing, GM will replace the vehicle’s hood.

As these things go, this is more an annoyance than a crisis. GM stock is off about 0.6% today, at $27.17 in a 52-week range of $18.72 to $27.91.
