Ford Trucks, SUVs Drive July Sales to 9-Year High

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) on Tuesday posted a U.S. sales increase of 5% year over year in July to 222,731 Ford and Lincoln vehicles, compared with July 2014 sales of 212,236. Truck sales rose 5.7% for the month after falling 0.7% in June.

Total sales compare to estimates of nearly 216,000 units from Edmunds and 214,000 from Kelley Blue Book.

Sales of the Ford F-Series pickups rose by 4.8% in July to 66,288 units and sales are now down 1.3% year to date. The better news for Ford is that the transaction pricing on the F-Series truck rose $3,200 compared with the July 2014 transaction price.

Truck sales comprise about 37% of all Ford division sales and the F-Series pickups accounted for almost 30% of total sales in July.

Ford’s Escape small sport utility vehicle (SUV) saw a sales increase of 10.1% year over year, reversing a decline of 3.9% in June. Sales of the all-new Transit and Transit Connect totaled 12,748 units in July, and the new Transit has sold a total of 65,688 units for the year to date.

Sales of the Lincoln brand rose 21.3% year over year, while sales of Lincoln utility vehicles rose by nearly 39.3%. Car sales totaled 3,186 units in July and utility vehicle sales totaled 6,350 units. Year to date, Lincoln car sales are down 17.4% and utility sales are up 35.2%.

The stock traded up about 1.3% Monday morning, at $15.02 in a 52-week range of $13.26 to $17.87.
