Ford F-Series Sales Up 16% in October, but Share Dips 1%

Ford F-Series Sales Up 16% in October, but Share Dips 1%

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) sold 75,974 F-Series pickups in October, topping sales of General Motors Co.’s (NYSE: GM) Chevy Silverado by 22,817 units. Adding in sales of the GMC Sierra, Ford still outsold GM in the pickup wars by 3,922 units.

Ford F-Series pickup sales rose 15.9% year over year in October, compared with an increase of 6.8% in Silverado sales and a rise of 25.5% in Sierra sales.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V.’s (NYSE: FCAU) Ram pickup sales rose 1% year over year to 44,201 units sold in the month.

Other full-size pickups on offer in the United States are the Tundra from Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM) and the Nissan Titan. Toyota Tundra sales for October totaled 10,022, up 5.1% year over year. The Titan sold 4,114 units in October, up 29.3% compared with October 2016.

Sales of GM’s midsize Colorado pickup rose 8.6% to 11,271 units, and sales of the GMC Canyon fell 0.9% to 2,922 in October. Nissan’s midsize Frontier pickup sold 6,219 units in October, down 2.3% year over year. Toyota sold 15,804 of the company’s midsize Tacoma pickups, down 0.4% compared with October of last year. Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (NYSE: HMC) sold 2,709 units of its Ridgeline midsize pickup, down 16.4% from 3,371 units in October of 2016.

In the full-size pickup segment, October sales of 192,227 vehicles from the Detroit Three pencils out to a Ford market share of 39.5% (a month-over-month decrease of 1.1 points). GM’s share came in at 27.7% for the Chevy Silverado (up 0.2 points) and 9.8% (up 0.9 points) for the GMC Sierra. Ram’s market share totaled 23% (down 0.2 points).

Combined, the Detroit Three sold just 310 more full-size pickups last month than they did in October 2016.
