BP Slick Moves East Quickly

Some predictions show the spill from the Deepwater Horizon wreck will extend up the East Coast and into the middle Atlantic by August. The current NOAA map shows the oil slick already moving in that direction rapidly.

BP plc (NYSE: BP) says it has put a cap on the leak, but the effect appears to have stanched the flow only modestly. It is still likely that 20,000 barrels a day are rising to the surface.

The NOAA’s latest report is that:

Onshore winds are expected to continue moving oil toward shorelines in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the panhandle of Florida. More oil was reported on Grand Isle beach, along with oiled animals and debris.
