Americans are paying slightly more at the gas pump this week, according to an Energy Information Administration report released Tuesday, which showed the national average price for regular gasoline clocked in at $3.674 per gallon on Monday, up $0.009 from a week ago and $0.029 above the same time last year. The Midwest saw the steepest price hikes in the past week, up $0.040, while the Gulf Coast managed a $0.004 decline.

As gas prices increased $0.009, diesel prices fell $0.009 per gallon over the past week to $3.925 per gallon on average. This latest price tag puts diesel $0.045 per gallon above the same time last year. While Midwesterners felt the squeeze on gasoline prices, they enjoyed the largest week-to-week $0.017 dip for diesel. On the West Coast, diesel prices increased $0.002 per gallon.

At these latest prices, the West Coast pays the prettiest penny for gasoline ($4.004) and diesel ($4.027), while the Gulf Coast can guzzle gas for just $3.435 and diesel for $3.783 per gallon.

According to AAA, on Sunday, for the first time in 2014, consumers in three states (Hawaii, California, and Alaska) paid $4 or more per gallon for gas.
