Americans are paying more at the gas pump this week, with the national average price for regular gasoline clocking in at $3.690 per gallon Monday, up $0.016 from a week ago and $0.044 above the same time last year, according to an Energy Information Administration report released Monday.
The Midwest was far and beyond the reason for the average price rise, with its gas price jumping $0.062 per gallon. The East Coast, on the other hand, enjoyed an $0.011 drop from week to week.

While gas prices increased, diesel prices dipped slightly with a $0.007 decline over the past week to $3.918 per gallon on average. This latest price puts diesel $0.049 above the same time last year. Gulf Coast prices remained the same as last week, while Rocky Mountain region diesel prices fell $0.010 per gallon. No region clocked a week-to-week gain for diesel.
At these latest prices, the West Coast pays the prettiest penny for gasoline ($4.007) and diesel ($4.021), while the Gulf Coast can guzzle gas for just $3.440 and diesel for $3.783 per gallon.
