BP's New Storm Watch Ahead in Gulf Spill (BP)

The BP plc (NYSE: BP) clean-up in the Gulf of Mexico has a new worst friend that is maybe coming over for dinner.  A possible tropical storm, cyclone, or depression poses a risk.  While this is a ways out and while this is still a tropical wave, that well cap probably needs any storm activity to head elsewhere.

The good news is that shower activity has been reported as less organized.  A tropical depression is not expected to form today but the NOAA report says that environmental conditions remain favorable for further development as it heads toward the Bahamas on a West-Northwest trajectory.  NOAA gives this a high chance at 60% of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours.

As with all storms, where it ends up is dependent upon many factors.  Still, heavy rain is expected.  So far, the Gulf of Mexico clean-up operations has avoided any major storms as the storm activity has not produced a direct hit to the area.  Unfortunately, there is still about 100 days of hurricane season left.

Can Tony Hayward get blamed for storms?
