These Countries Ship the Most Firearms to the United States

The current trade war is keeping many American industries wary, including the firearms industry. While even U.S.-made guns are likely to be affected due to rising costs of materials used for weapons, imported weapons are expected to increase in price. The National Shooting Sports Foundation held a webinar on April 30, 2025, to discuss tariffs and what they mean for upcoming prices. When overseas manufacturers are hit with increased taxes to import their goods into the country, consumers will be the ones paying the price.

Although most guns sold in the U.S. are made in the U.S., there is still a meaningful amount of firearms imported from other countries. Certain countries are home to firearm brands that have developed loyal followings in the U.S. For example, Austria is home to the global headquarters of Glock, a leading pistol brand in America. 24/7 Wall St. identified the countries selling Americans the most firearms with data from the ATF’s Firearm Commerce report. We ranked our list on the total number of guns each country exported to the U.S. between 2010 and 2023. Only countries that exported at least 5,000 firearms to the U.S. over this period were considered.

Why It Matters Right Now

Millions of firearms roll off American assembly lines every year. Still, the U.S. is the largest consumer market for guns in the world, and to meet demand, the U.S. also imports millions of firearms annually. While the majority of guns sold in the U.S. were also manufactured domestically, certain foreign countries still have a meaningful foothold in the American market. However, will this change if future prices make foreign imports cost prohibitive?
