NASCAR great Mark Martin retired from the sport in 2013. This was after an extraordinary 40 Sprint Cup wins. He has put the house he lived in since then on the market for $2.55 million.

Martin’s house at 18810 Halyard Pointe Lane, Cornelius, NC, has four bedrooms and four and a half baths in 5,767 square feet. The house sits on a small .74 acre lot on Lake Norman, northeast of Charlotte, near Highway 16.

It was the most viewed house last week at Realtor.com.

Cornelius has a population of nearly 25,000, having doubled from 2000 to 2010, according to the Census. The population is well off; the median household income is just under $84,000, which is $30,000 above the national average. Almost 92% of the population is white.

Martin’s house is priced high by Cornelius standards. The median price of a home for sale there is $449,000.

Here is the listing:

This brilliantly designed Smart Home in The Peninsula on Lake Norman is elite in every detail. Freshly updated featuring walls of picture windows overlooking priceless wide water & 190′ of uncluttered shoreline. Fine craftsmanship w/top of the line materials, state of the art automation & casual elegance abound. Artisan millwork, tongue & groove ceilings, chef’s kitchen w/huge island, honed granite, Wolf commercial range, SubZero & Bosch. 4 car heated/cooled garage-1 being utilized as full gym.

And the real estate listing company’s comments about the property:

This week, the lakefront home of NASCAR legend Mark Martin took the checkered flag in the race for clicks. His luxurious Carolina home lapped the competition and racked up twice as many views as the second-place finisher in our weekly look at the most popular homes on realtor.com®.

While Martin never took home the hardware awarded to the champ of the most popular auto racing circuit in America, his home is a true winner. Located on Lake Norman in North Carolina, the contemporary four-bedroom retreat has nearly 200 feet of private shoreline. If the passion of NASCAR fans is any indication, the home will have no trouble attracting interest and racing away with a buyer.

It’s a lot to pay, even for a rabid fan.
