Another example of the Chinese government’s unreliable public relations is its claim to have shut down one of the largest hacker operations in the country–in November. The announcement was made today, at least two months after the action took place.
The Wall Street Journal reports “the business, known as Black Hawk Safety Net, operated through the now-shuttered Web site www.3800cc.com and generated around $1 million in income from its over 12,000 subscribers.”
Black Hawk did provide tools to other hackers, but it is not clear if these tools were used to hack into Google’s servers in China. Google either had not discovered the source of the malicious behavior, or, if it knows it has not disclosed it.
China has made itself out as a victim of cybercrime and not an originator of cyberattacks made on US companies. If that is so, it has produced absolutely no evidence to support its position as a victim.
