Rumor Watch: AIG Asia Unit Sale In Trouble

According to rumors published by The New York Post, the sale of AIG’s (AIG) Asia unit to Prudential UK is in trouble because investors in the UK firm object to the price and method for financing the transaction. The buyout is valued at $35.5 billion. Some of that will go to repay US taxpayers who have put $182 billion into AIG.

“This [deal] is not a foregone conclusion by any stretch,” said one banker familiar with the transaction.
