Monday Morning Market Snapshots

Stocks are firm in all major markets so far this Monday.  DJIA futures are trading higher by 0.7% and S&P futures are up 0.8%.  In Europe, the FTSE is up 1.1%, the DAX is up 1.2%, and the CAC is also up by 1.2%.  In Asia, Japan was up 0.4% and Hong Kong closed up 1.0%.  Canadian markets are closed for a national civic holiday.

NYMEX WTI crude is higher this morning at $79.60 per barrel; Gold is lower around $1,178.75.

Treasury bond prices were soft in longer-dated maturities: yield on the 10-Year 2.93% is and the yield on the 30-Year was 4.007%.

The dollar/Yen was Y86.79; the Euro started out stronger but was at $1.3067; and the Pound was stronger at $1.5791.

  • 10:00 AM EST Online Help Wanted Index (July)

At 10:15 AM EST Fed Chairman Bernanke speaks on the issues facing the economy.

At 4:00 PM EST Treasury Secretary Geithner speaks on financial reform in New York and is expected to speak in a much more balanced and accommodating manner.
