Costco (NASDAQ: COST) same-store sales rose 7% for the important five week holiday period. The movement was, however, a slowing from the balance of the quarter which rose 9%.
Costco is one of the first large chains to report December, so many of the larger retail company numbers will be compared to it. The big box retailer has been among the most successful companies in its sector for several years.
Revenue for the period also rose.
The company reported
net sales of $10.05 billion for the month of December, the five weeks ended January 1, 2012, an increase of nine percent from $9.19 billion during the similar five-week period last year.
For the first eighteen weeks of its reporting period ended January 1, 2012, the Company reported net sales of $33.18 billion, an increase of eleven percent from $29.78 billion during the similar period last year.
