A thirty-year tradition at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) is about to be scrapped as the company eliminates its door greeters from the overnight shift. The company is trying to shore up its profits and margins at a time when US stores are struggling.
The change affects the company’s 3,000 or so super-centers which are open 24 hours a day. Because the door greeters have been associated with Walmart for so long, some see the move as risky. Others don’t expect much impact because the middle-of-the-night traffic at Walmart’s stores is very light.
