Chinese display maker Proview Technology (Shenzen) has filed suit in a Chinese court seeking $38 million and an apology from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) for infringement of the iPad trademark in the People’s Republic. The company sued Apple last year and the US company filed a countersuit. A Chinese court ruled in favor of Proview in December. Apple has appealed the ruling.
Apple purchased the rights to the iPad name from Proview Electronics (Taiwan), but the company now claims that the Chinese rights were owned by its Shenzen subsidiary. The AppleInsider blog reports that the $38 million fine is set to be levied as soon as Apple’s appeal is denied.
Proview is also seeking an apology from Apple.
