July 7, 2015: Markets opened slightly higher on Tuesday but a reversal took just moments to set in and U.S. equities traded mostly lower for the remainder of the day. Commodities of all sorts were bludgeoned although oil fought back from down about 2.5% to close the day down only about 0.3%. Only the Nasdaq finished the day in the red as the biotech stocks lagged. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded up 0.40% for the day, the S&P 500 traded up 0.50%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded down 0.01%.
The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close Tuesday was The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO) which traded higher by 2.13%% at $40.26. The stock’s 52-week range is $39.06 to $45.00. Trading volume was about 10% above the daily average of around 12.5 million. The company had no specific news today.
The Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE: PG) traded up 2.05% at $81.69. The stock’s 52-week range is $77.10 to $93.89. Trading volume was about 10% above the daily average of around 8 million. Stocks for consumer products makers were among the best performing DJIA stocks today.
Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) traded up 1.53% at $33.76. The stock’s 52-week range is $27.51 to $36.53. Around 20 million shares traded hands today, about 15% below the daily average of around 23 million. The company initiated a Phase 2b study of a vaccine against staphylococcus for adults who are having elective spinal fusion surgery.
The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) traded up 1.67% at $142.83. The stock’s 52-week range is $116.32 to $158.83. Trading volume was around 2.6 million shares, about 25% below the daily average of around 3.7 million. Analysts at Wells Fargo raised their EPS target for the aircraft maker.
