Boeing, Apple Dominate DJIA on Tuesday

February 7, 2017: Markets opened higher Tuesday and dipped very near the red zone before bouncing back up. The energy sector is the day’s big loser while consumer staples and technology kept the major indexes in the green. WTI crude oil for March delivery settled at $52.17 a barrel, down about 1.6% on the day. April gold added 0.3% on the day to settle at $1,236.10. Equities were headed for a higher close close shortly before the bell as the DJIA traded up 0.01% for the day, the S&P 500 traded up 0.16%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded up 0.16%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close Tuesday was The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) which traded up 1.37% at $166.22. The stock’s 52-week range is $102.10 to $170.00. Volume was about equal to the daily average of around 3.4 million shares. The aerospace giant had no specific news.

International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) traded up 1.36% at $178.25. The stock’s 52-week range is $116.90 to $179.25. Volume was about 20% below the daily average of around 3.8 million shares. The company had no specific news.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) traded up 0.93% at $131.51. The stock’s 52-week range is $89.47 to $132.09, a new 52-week high set Tuesday. Volume was about 10% above the daily average of around 31.6 million shares. The company had no specific news.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) traded up 0.84% at $66.96. The stock’s 52-week range is $62.35 to $75.19. Volume was about half the daily average of around 9 million shares. The company had no specific news.
