Ford, JC Penney Tumble Into Tuesday’s 52-Week Low Club

[cnxvideo id=”507734″ placement=”ros”]May 2, 2017: Here are four stocks trading with relatively heavy volume among 99 equities making new 52-week lows in Tuesday’s session. On the NYSE, advancers and decliners were dead even and on the Nasdaq, decliners led advancers by about 4 to 3.

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) dropped about 4.6% Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $10.90 after closing at $11.42 on Monday. The stock’s 52-week high is $14.04. Volume was more than double the daily average of around 38 million shares traded. The company reported weak April sales results this morning

Celadon Group Inc. (NYSE: CGI) dropped nearly 68% Tuesday to post a new low of $1.30 after closing at $4.00 Monday night. The stock’s 52-week high is $12.03. Volume was more than 20 times the daily average of around 18.9 million shares. The trucking company revealed a host of issues after markets closed Monday that sent investors fleeing.

J.C. Penney Co. Inc. (NYSE: JCP) posted a new 52-week low of $5.32 on Tuesday, down about 0.6% compared with Monday’s closing price of $5.35. The stock’s 52-week high is 195.3 million shares. The company had no specific news.

Apparel Holding Company (NASDAQ: VNCE) dropped about 70% Tuesday to post a new 52-week  low of $0.28 after closing Monday at $0.95. The 52-week high is $7.17. Volume of around 11 million shares was more than 10 times the daily average of around 870,000. The clothing and accessories brand had no specific news but the company last week raised “substantial doubt” about its ability to continue as a going concern. Why it took so long for investors to react is unclear.
