Exxon Mobil, Altria Drop into Friday’s 52-Week Low Club

July 28, 2017: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 77 equities making new 52-week lows in Friday’s session. On the NYSE, advancers led decliners by about 8 to 7 and on the Nasdaq, decliners led advancers by nearly 15 to 13.

Altria Group Inc. (NYSE: MO) dropped nearly 19% Friday to register a new 52-week low of $60.01 after closing at $73.96 on Thursday. The 52-week high is is $77.79. Volume was over 50 million, almost 10 times the daily average of around 5.5 million shares. The U.S. FDA announced plans to reduce the amount of nicotine in cigarettes, making them less addictive.

Mattel Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) dropped 10% Friday to post a new 52-week low of $19.16 after closing at $21.30 on Thursday. The stock’s 52-week high is $34.24. Volume of more than 19 million was about 3 times the daily average. The company reported earnings disappointing earnings this morning, including that sales of the company’s iconic Barbie doll were down 5%.

Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) posted a new 52-week low of $78.27 on Friday, down about 3.2% from Thursday’s closing price of $80.83. The stock’s 52-week high is $93.22. Volume totaled around 19 million shares, about 65% above the daily average of around 11 million. The company posted better quarterly profits than in the same period of last year, but still missed the consensus estimate as production slipped below 4 million barrels a day.

Eldorado Gold Corp. (NYSE: EGO) dropped about 7% Friday to post a new 52-week low of $2.23 after closing Thursday at $2.40. The 52-week high is $4.39. Volume reached nearly 13 million shares traded, nearly 3 times the daily average of around 3.8 million. The company had no specific news Friday.
