Tuesday’s Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

July 10, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.4% at 2,793.79. The DJIA closed up 0.6% at 24,918.44. Separately, the Nasdaq was flat at 7,759.20.

Tuesday was a relatively positive day for the broad U.S. markets, with all the major averages edging up. Crude oil was again positive on the day but only marginally. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly positive with one exception. The most positive sectors were consumer staples, utilities and materials, up 1.2%, 1.0% and 0.8%, respectively. The worst performing sector was financials down 0.4%.

Crude oil was last seen trading up 0.3% at $74.06.

Gold was last seen trading down 0.2% at $1,256.70.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Cerner Corp. (NASDAQ: CERN) which fell about 4.5% to $60.82. The stock’s 52-week range is $52.05 to $73.86. Volume was 2.1 million compared to the daily average volume of 2.2 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Pepsico, Inc. (NASDAQ: PEP) which traded up about 5% at $112.86. The stock’s 52-week range is $95.94 to $122.51. Volume was over 14 million compared to the daily average volume of 5.3 million.
