Quick Read

  • Solana processes thousands of transactions per second at a fraction of a penny using proof-of-history consensus.

  • Bittensor monetizes decentralized AI compute and training networks at lower costs than alternatives.

  • Ondo Finance tokenizes real world assets like U.S. Treasurys and real estate on blockchain rails.

It wasn’t that long ago that the whole narrative around a so-called “crypto winter” forming was on most investors’ minds. Indeed, the decline we saw in 2022 was significant, and certainly scared plenty of investors away from this asset class altogether.

Of course, the reality is that investors who stuck with the game plan and continued to hold through the volatility are most likely ahead of the game. That goes double for those who bought some of the top mega-cap cryptocurrencies near their 2022 lows. This is a volatile asset class, but one that has mostly trended up and to the right for the historical lifetime of most major decentralized digital currencies.

That’s not to say such a trend can’t or won’t change over time. That’s partly because Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) inception came following the great financial crisis of 2008.

But for those who think crypto deserves at least a small position in the portfolio due to its impressive capital appreciation upside potential, here are three top tokens I think could rally hard in 2026 if we see another reversion rally off of recent lows.

Solana (SOL)

One top layer-1 project I continue to pound the table on is Solana (CRYPTO:SOL). What Solana does differently than many of its competitors in the layer-1 space is directly correlated to how this platform was developed from an infrastructure standpoint.

Utilizing a proof-of-history consensus mechanism, Solana developers have found a way to order incoming transactions more efficiently, significantly speeding up the overall process. Able to handle thousands of transactions per second (at a fraction of a penny per transaction), users have clearly flocked to Solana as their blockchain of choice for anything related to small transactions. With significant growth seen in both rising decentralized exchange volumes, as well as NFT and memecoin activity, there’s a lot to like about how Solana is positioned relative to its peers.

I think the key growth driver for Solana next year will likely be tied to institutional investment. With a range of new spot ETFs being launched, as well as a number of staking-related ETFs, I think Solana’s ability to benefit from a more positive regulatory environment for crypto stands out as a compelling reason to own this crypto at this point in the market cycle.

Bittensor (TAO)

Another top digital asset I think is generally overlooked by many investors is Bittensor (CRYPTO:TAO). This is a project that many view as an AI play, and it is. The project’s design ties TWO directly to demand for compute and model outputs on the network. Thus, investors looking to drily benefit from a surge in decentralized training and inference networks have a top option to choose from.

Now, Bittensor’s performance over the course of the past year hasn’t been great. But I do think much of this recent decline has to do with souring sentiment overall around the level of Capex spend taking place to push artificial intelligence platforms forward.

That said, given the relative cost advantage Bittensor provides those looking to utilize compute capacity on the cheap, this is a project that could certainly fly much higher in 2026, if momentum around the AI trade picks up. With Bittensor’s monetizable business model, allowing users and investors to benefit from more efficient utilization of scarce compute resources, there’s a lot to like about this token’s upside this year.

Ondo Finance (ONDO)

Last, but certainly not least on this list of top cryptos to consider buying in 2026, is Ondo Finance (CRYPTO:ONDO).

One of the key areas of investment I think are worth considering for those with a long-term investing time horizon, at least in the world of digital assets, is real world asset tokenization. Projects like Ondo Finance allow users to change ownership of real world assets on the blockchain. For anyone who has been involved in a real estate transaction or other heavily documented deal, having a more seamless (and lower-cost) option available to complete these transactions using lightning fast (and low cost) blockchain technology seems like one area of disruption with meaningful upside.

Ondo Finance not only facilitates these types of transactions, but is the go-to network for a number of major traditional financial players to list other assets such as U.S. Treasurys and yield-bearing instruments on-chain. In doing so, the idea is that investors who add exposure to ONDO tokens should benefit from increasing liquidity needs on-chain, driving demand for these tokens higher over time and creating a virtuous loop higher.

I think 2026 provides a compelling backdrop for investors looking at how the regulatory and institutional adoption landscapes are shaping up. If we do see a rush of capital flow into the crypto sector this year, I think a great deal of that capital will find itself funneled into projects like Ondo Finance, given the material utility such projects provide. That’s to say nothing of the total addressable market Ondo is going after – which is absolutely massive.
