It is either a sign that sales have been poor and retailers are going all-out to pick up more revenue any way they can, or it is a sign that sales have been good and retailers figure why not grab as much as they can.

What we’re talking about here are extended store hours at a number of large chain stores. The following hours of operation were culled from several shopping sites and may not apply to every store.

Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M) will be open 24-hours a day on December 22 and 23, and will be open on Christmas Eve from midnight to 6 p.m. The stores will be closed on Christmas Day and reopen at 7:00 a.m. on December 26.

J.C. Penney Co. Inc. (NYSE: JCP) has added hours on the three days leading up to Christmas. Stores will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. from December 22 through December 24.

Kohl’s Corp. (NYSE: KSS) plans to be open 24-hours a day on December 22 and 23, and will be open on Christmas Eve from midnight to 6 p.m. The stores will be closed on Christmas Day and reopen at 6:00 a.m. on December 26 and will be open 24 hours on the weekend.

Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT) stores are open 7:00 a.m. to midnight on December 23 and 24 and closed on Christmas Day.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) already keeps most of its supercenter stores open 24 hours a day. For the others, hours have been extended to 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. All Walmart stores close at 6:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve and are closed on Christmas Day. Stores reopen at 6:00 a.m. on December 26.

For lucky last-minute shoppers in 12 major cities, Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) is offering same-day shipping on orders placed before 10:00 a.m. on Christmas Eve.
