Retailers That Are Opening Up Early on Thanksgiving and Black Friday

Thinkstock

Black Friday is known as the busiest shopping day of the year, but some retailers are starting early again this year and opening their doors on Thanksgiving, adding to the madness. If consumers are planning on going shopping during this time, they should have a plan to deal with the hordes of shoppers and a schedule of what stores are open.

Roughly 164 million people are planning on shopping this weekend according to the National Retail Federation. For some perspective that’s nearly 70% of the population of the country.

Out of this group 32 million are planning on getting a leg up on everyone else, and starting their shopping on Thanksgiving. More and more retailers have been moving towards this idea of opening up early on Turkey Day, and cashing in on the frenzy.

While some stores have specific hours for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, Walmart is the only major retailer out of this selection that will be open the entire time, although Black Friday discounts don’t begin until 6 p.m. local time.

CNBC put together a list of a few of the other major stores and their hours on Thanksgiving and Black Friday (closing hours may vary by the store on Thanksgiving):

  • Target is open at 5pm on Thanksgiving and open at 6am Black Friday
  • Best Buy is open at 6pm on Thanksgiving and open at 8am Black Friday
  • Macy’s is open at 5pm on Thanksgiving and open at 6am Black Friday
  • Kohl’s is open at 5pm on Thanksgiving and is staying open through 10pm Black Friday
  • JC Penney is open at 2pm on Thanksgiving and is staying open through 10pm Black Friday
  • Sears is open at 6pm on Thanksgiving and open at 5am Black Friday
  • Neiman Marcus is open at 8am Black Friday
  • Home Depot is open at 6am Black Friday
