A Gallup poll indicates that around 46% of Americans have a gun in their home or on their property. This statistic, obtained from an annual survey, has remained steady for nearly two decades. In comparison, that total was 54% in 1993. The survey also reveals that 33% of Americans own a firearm personally.

It is noteworthy that the rates of gun ownership and the existence of firearms in households vary significantly among diverse demographic groups, regions, income brackets, and other categorizations.

One of the notable differences in rates of firearm ownership is associated with geographic regions. In the Eastern United States, around 22% of individuals personally own firearms, while in the Southern states, this number is twice as high at 44%. These differences arise from a blend of cultural and political influences. Many Southern states, for instance, have higher numbers of registered Republicans, a demographic closely associated with firearm ownership.

24/7 Wall St. reviewed the most recent poll conducted by polling agency Gallup, titled: Household Gun Ownership in U.S. Among Subgroups. The survey questioned whether respondents possessed firearms individually and, separately, if they lived in households with guns. Participants were categorized by criteria such as gender, political party affiliation, age, geographical region, household income, and community type.
