Short Interest in 3D Printing Stocks Continues to Wane

Short Interest in 3D Printing Stocks Continues to Wane

Short interest during the two-week period ending December 15 declined again on all four 3D printing stocks we follow. Share prices rose on three of the stocks, although the gains were modest. Turnover in the stocks is slowing, with all four seeing days to cover over 10 during the period.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) declined by 1.7% to 33.22 million shares. Some 31.5% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover rose from 11 to 13. In the two-week short interest period to December 15, the share price rose about 3.9%. The stock’s 52-week trading range is $8.44 to $33.97, and shares closed at $10.50 on Thursday, up about 0.6% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest fall by 4.4% in the first two weeks of December to about 11.62 million shares, or about 24% of the company’s float. Days to cover slipped from 14 to 13. The share price rose about 1% in the two-week period, and the stock closed at $26.79 on Thursday, up less than 0.1% on the day. The 52-week range is $22.15 to $84.91.

Short interest in ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) slipped 6% to 2.29 million shares. About 25.3% of the company’s shares were short. The share price dipped about 1% in the two-week period. The stock’s 52-week range is $5.81 to $18.36, and shares closed at $12.04 on Thursday, down about 2.1% for the day. Days to cover rose from nine to 11.

Short interest in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) decreased by 6% to 1.21 million shares, with days to cover dropping from 24 to 12. The stock price fell by about 20% in the short interest period. The stock closed at $5.15 on Thursday, up about 3.8% for the day, in a 52-week range of $4.17 to $10.75.
