Short Interest in 3D Printing Stocks Trends Higher

Short Interest in 3D Printing Stocks Trends Higher

Short interest during the two-week period ending October 13 rose on three of four 3D printing stocks we follow. As of that date, all four stocks had seen share prices down sharply from 2017 highs.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) rose by 6.2% to 28.86 million shares. Some 26.4% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover fell from 16 to 13. In the two-week short interest period, the share price fell by about 8.8%. The stock’s 52-week range is $11.38 to $23.70, and shares closed at $12.26 on Tuesday, up about 4.9% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest rise by 6.4% in the first two weeks of October to about 6.2 million shares, or 12.5% of the company’s float. Days to cover fell from 16 to eight. The share price fell by about 6% in the two-week period, and the stock closed at $23.47 on Tuesday, up more than 3% on the day, in a 52-week range of $16.37 to $30.88.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) fell by 5.4% to 2.05 million shares. About 22% of the company’s shares were short. ExOne’s share price decreased by about 11.3% in the two-week period. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.72 to $14.43, and shares closed at $10.71 on Tuesday, up about 1.5% for the day. Days to cover rose from 12 to 15.

Short interest in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) increased by 7.1% to 572,100 American depositary shares, with days to cover rising from three to six. Voxeljet dropped nearly 8% for the two-week period and closed at $5.15 on Tuesday, up about 2.8% in a 52-week range of $2.61 to $6.37.
