Unlike Ford’s Model T, the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) Xbox One now comes in a color other than black. Whether the new white version of the game console will help sales is a matter of opinion. More likely to improve demand is the fact that the white hardware comes bundled with popular games.

The Xbox One Special Edition Sunset Overdrive Bundle includes:

  • The Cirrus White console and controller, full game download and Day One Edition in-game content
  • The most advanced multiplayer powered by over 300,000 servers for maximum performance
  • Snap a game, live TV, and apps side-by-side, and switch quickly between them

According to information posted at Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), the product will be available on October 24, which puts it in the market just before the critical period of year-end holiday sales.

Sunset Overdrive is a popular game package. The new Xbox One line will also be bundled with other game packages. According to Microsoft Xbox chief Phil Spencer,

“We’re excited to offer fans more choice and value than ever before. These bundles offer a great opportunity to enjoy Xbox One alongside an incredible line-up of first and third party games, making Xbox the best place to play this holiday and beyond.”

Microsoft rival Sony recently announced it had sold 10 million of its new PS4 console. The battle between the two will be determined to a large extent on the games that can be run on each. Many of these will not be introduced until late 2014 or early 2o15.

It really does not matter what colors Microsoft and Sony offer. The race between the two is already based on available games, social media features, and their usefulness as consumer devices to play HD movies. The white Xbox One is nothing more than a diversion.
