When it comes down to it, everyone likes owning something that they feel is exclusive. Growing up, people frequently kept collections of little bits and baubles: buttons, marbles, dolls, books. The older we get, the more those collections change — but it’s still nice to share something super rare or expensive with others. For many American adults, gun collecting has become a popular hobby. An article published in The Guardian shared the stories of American collectors, some known as “gun super-owners.” This group comprises the top 14% of gun owners who own between eight and 140 guns each. The average number of guns owned by collectors sits around seventeen guns. Of course, not everybody who owns many guns is simply a collector. Some enjoy buying fancy, high-capability rifles for hunting. Others keep guns around their home for self-defense. Either way, these gun super-owners seem to blow other collectors out of the water with how many pieces they keep in their collections.

When it comes to rare and expensive guns, collectors and hobbyists alike have a keen interest in acquiring them. Some of these rare and expensive guns are beautifully carved and handcrafted. Others have power and accuracy to an incredibly high degree, making them worth the burden on your wallet. Here, 24/7 Wall St. set out to find the rarest and most expensive rifles available. We chose the top 20 based on recent sale prices, using sale information from a variety of websites. In some cases, these rifles are or were only available at auction, so prices may vary. We listed the guns from least to most expensive. (Americans are in a rush to buy these rifles.)

Plus, if you’re a collector and you’re searching for the next gun to add to your collection, this list provides some of the rarest firearms you’d want to get your hands on.
