Baby Food, Toy Recalls Mar Holiday (WMT, MJN, TGT)

The death of an infant in Missouri has led Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) to recall Enfamil baby formula manufactured by Mead Johnson Nutrition Co. (NYSE: MJN) from more than 3,000 US stores. Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT) is recalling around 139,000 toy travel cases that contain lead paint in their surface coating.

The child’s death was linked to the presence of Cronobacter, a bacterium that in rare cases affects newborns. Mead Johnson said that the batch of Enfamil believed to be involved was tested and cleared before it was delivered. New tests following the infant’s death reconfirm that finding according to the company.

The toy travel cases were manufactured in China for Target and were sold at the company’s store between April and August of this year.
