In the latest blow to its vaunted reputation for quality, Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM) today announced a recall of 682,000 cars and pickups. The company issued a recall of 420,000 Lexus and Toyota cars in November to fix a problem with a crankshaft pulley on the V6 engines.
In the larger recall, Toyota will fix a problem with the driver’s side air bag in 495,000 Tacoma light trucks and replace the stop lamp switches in 70,500 Camry and about 116,000 Venza vehicles. The company will notify owners by mail.
The company is still trying to obtain parts for the new recall, and expects to have them available by early April. Both repairs will take about 30 minutes to fix and will be done free of charge to vehicle owners.
