The 4 Stocks That Propped Up the DJIA on Tuesday

April 7, 2015: Markets opened higher on Tuesday on little economic data and not much excitement in either European or Asian markets. The job openings and labor turnover survey (JOLTS) showed more than 5.1 million job openings last month. Last hour trading is pushing the market toward a mixed close. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded up 0.11% for the day, the S&P 500 traded down 0.09%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded down 0.03%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close Tuesday was Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) which traded higher by 1.59% at $108.62. The stock’s 52-week range is $98.88 to $135.10. Trading volume was about 25% below the daily average of around 8.5 million shares. Oil prices rose about 3% today on expectations of higher demand.

The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) traded up 1.13% at $152.63. The stock’s 52-week range is $116.32 to $158.83. Trading volume was about 15% below the daily average of around 4.5 million shares. The company beat rival Airbus in first quarter net orders and deliveries.

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) traded up 1.08% at $100.23. The stock’s 52-week range is $95.10 to $109.49. Trading volume was about half the daily average of around 9.3 million shares. The healthcare company had no specific news today.

Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) traded up 1.0% at $65.88. The stock’s split-adjusted 52-week range is $48.71 to $69.66. Trading volume was about 50% below the daily average of around 10.5 million shares. The company had no specific news today.

Of the Dow 30 stocks 16 are set to close higher today and 14 are on track to close lower.
