May 4, 2015: Markets opened higher on Monday after a relatively quiet night overseas. Both U.K. and Japanese equities markets were closed Monday for holidays. Other Asian and European markets closed higher Monday. Eight of ten sectors in the U.S. are headed for gains as markets approach the day’s close. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded up 0.32% for the day, the S&P 500 traded up 0.36%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded up 0.33%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close Monday was JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) which traded up 1.76% at $64.73. The stock’s 52-week range is $52.97 to $64.87, a new 52-week high posted late this afternoon. Trading volume was about 25% below the daily average of around 15.7 million shares. The company had no specific news today.

Merck & Company Inc. (NYSE: MRK) traded up 1.35% at $60.67. The stock’s 52-week range is $52.49 to $63.62. Trading volume is about 40% below the daily average of around 11.6 million shares. The drug maker had no specific news today.

UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH) traded higher by 1.25% at $114.62. The stock’s 52-week range is $74.30 to $123.76. Trading volume was about 35% below the daily average of around 4 million shares. The healthcare giant had no specific news today.

United Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UTX) traded up 1.14% at $116.76. The stock’s 52-week range is $97.30 to $124.45. Trading volume is about 25% below the daily average of around 3.5 million shares. The company had no specific news today.
