The 4 Stocks That Weighed on the DJIA on Monday

June 15, 2015: Markets opened lower on Monday, once again taking some punishment after negotiations between Greece and some of its creditors were summarily ended on Sunday. The dollar weakened somewhat today and the price of crude oil for July delivery fell about 0.7%. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded down 0.54% for the day, the S&P 500 traded down 0.41%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded down 0.36%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Monday was United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) which traded down 2.41% at $114.76. The stock’s 52-week range is $97.30 to $124.45. Trading volume totaled about 3.8 million shares, about 15% above the daily average of around 3.4 million. The company said today that it will shed its Sikorsky helicopter business either as a sale or a spin-off.

Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) traded down 1.04% at $45.95. The stock’s 52-week range is $40.12 to $50.05. Trading volume totaled about 23 million shares, well below the daily average of more than 35 million. The company showed off new gaming technology at the E3 show and has also said it will allow Xbox One buyers to play older games on the company’s latest console.

3M Company (NYSE: MMM) traded down 1.32% at $155.95. The stock’s 52-week range is $130.60 to $170.50. About 2 million shares traded hands today, about 10% below the daily average of about 2.3 million. The conglomerated settled a patent dispute today but did not specify the terms of the settlement.

Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) traded lower by 0.97%% at $68.65. The stock’s 52-week range is $48.80 to $70.69. Trading volume was around 3.8 million shares, well below the daily average of around 7.8 million. The company had no specific news today

Of the Dow 30 stocks 27 are set to close lower today and just 3 are on track to close higher.
