Tuesday started out as a positive day for the broad U.S. markets, but everything turned south as the day went on. The Dow was the first to turn negative, led lower by Boeing; the S&P 500 and Nasdaq would follow but much later in the day. Crude oil pulled back only slightly in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly negative. The most positive sectors were utilities and financials up 0.6% and 0.4%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were energy and industrials down 1.4% and 1.3%, respectively.

Crude oil was down 0.2% at $72.09.
Gold was flat at $1,291.40.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Tuesday was AutoZone, Inc. (NYSE: AZO) which traded down about 9.5% at $601.65. The stock’s 52-week range is $491.13 to $797.89. Volume was nearly 2 million compared to the daily average volume of nearly half a million.
The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Tuesday was Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) which rose about 6% to $59.60. The stock’s 52-week range is $26.85 to $63.42. Volume was 109 million compared to the daily average volume of 55 million.
