Professional gamblers will bet on almost anything, from Presidential races to obscure sports. Just ahead of the Academy Award nominee announcement tomorrow, oddsmakers have taken wagers on every single category.

Global beating odds are posted online by several operators. The most well known are Sports Interaction and Oddschecker. Each allows gamblers around the world to betting. The total dollar amounts bet for each nominee against the others in its category determines the odds. Oddschecker covers bets from 23 sites.

Oddschecker has Mexican film “Roma” as the top odds favorite for Best Picture, followed by “A Star is Born”, “Green Book”, “The Favourite”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “BlackKKlansman”, “Black Panther”, “Vice”, “If Beale Street Could Talk”, “First Reformed”, “Widows”, “White Boy Rick”, “First Man”, “Mortal Engines”, “Burden”, “Mary Poppins Returns”, and “The Incredibles 2”. At the top of the list, “Roma” has odds of 7/4, followed by “A Star is Born” at 5/1, “Greenbook” at 8/1, and “The Favourite” at 14/1.

Among potential Best Director nominees, that odds favorite is Alfonso Cuaron, followed by Bradley Cooper, Spike Lee, Damien Chazelle, Paul Schrader, Peter Farrelly, Adam McKay, Steve McQueen, and Yorgos Lanthimos. Alfonso Cuaron has odds of 1/5. Cooper’s are 10/1, Spike Lee is 14/1, and Adam McKay is 50/1.

The odds on favorites in the Best Actor category are Rami Malek, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Viggo Mortensen, Ethan Hawke, Steve Coogan, John David Washington, Robert Redford, John C Reilly, and Ryan Gosling. Rami Malek has top odds at 5/4, followed by Bradley Cooper at 11/2, Christian Bale at 13/8, and Viggo Mortensen at 33/1

The odds favorites in the Best Actress category are Glenn Close, Olivia Colman, Lady Gaga, Rosamund Pike, Emily Blunt, Yalitza Aparicio, Joanna Kulig, Melissa McCarthy, Elsie Fisher, Toni Collette, and Viola Davis. Glenn Close has 4/9 odds, followed by Olivia Colman at 9/2, Lady Gaga at 5/1 and Rosamund Pike at 33/1.

Screen Rant comments on likely winners and loser. “A Star Is Born has emerged as 2019’s big Oscar favorite, with the bookies currently having it on odds for Best Picture rivaled only by Roma. Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, the fourth official version of the story after films in 1937, 1954 and 1976, was the toast of the festival circuit in Fall 2018, and quickly emerged as a favorite to win big at the Oscars. This was emboldened when supposed competition from previous Oscar winners, such as Damien Chazelle’s First Man, Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk and Steve McQueen’s Widows, fell by the wayside care of poor box office and unclear critical praise.” It is a sign that while betting pools do not post identical numbers, they are likely to be close.

One this is clear surveying professional gambling odds. “Roma”, a small film based on a small budget is the betting favorites against
“A Star is Born”, a big film backed by big money.
