Owners of odd houses frequently can’t find buyers. A home, made in a dome, which sits in St. Louis, built in 1977, has been off and on the market since 2007. Since then, through a series of listings and delistings, its price has dropped from $542,000 to $398,000

The home has some historic aspects, according to realtor.com. It was designed by  Jon Mullinax, who learned his trade from architect and inventor  Buckminster Fuller. That has not helped sell the home, or hold its price.

The realtor who is selling the house calls it “the only one of its kind in St. Louis.” Again, not something that has driven a sale. This agent, Edye Todd , claims 100 people came through at a recent open house. Probably, all of them were gawkers.

Realtor.com’s listing says the house has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It sits on one acre.

The listing:

Unique Geodesic Dome built by Jon Mullinax, an engineer who was inspired by his professor, Buckminster Fuller. The four level futuristic, energy efficient home offers over 3,000 sqft of fabulous living space! Beautifully updated kitchen offers top-of-the-line stainless appliances – Sub Zero, Viking, Wolf, and Fisher & Paykel, custom lighting & ceramic tile floor. Gorgeous granite countertops & custom cabinetry/pantries with pull-out shelving expand into the dining area. Master suite offers lots of space, custom built-ins, opens to UL deck. Huge walk-in closet, built-ins & laundry. Master bath also features lots of built-ins, oversized shower w/dual shower heads. Separate A/C keeps the master suite comfortably cool. Fabulous W/O lower level with built-in desks offers a variety of uses – home schooling, crafts, kitchenette, full bath & bonus room. Serene, 1 acre private, park-like backyard can be enjoyed from the expansive deck. Close to Creve Coeur Park and Lake, easy highway access.

Four levels, and a lot of stairs. That rules out old people, or families with young children
