The United Steel Workers union could authorize a strike against US refineries that produce about one-third of the country’s daily refined products demand of 19 million barrels. The strike deadline is midnight on the morning of February 1st.
The union is reportedly discussing its options of striking just selected refineries or calling for a general walkout. Major refiners Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM), Valero Energy Corp. (NYSE: VLO), Royal Dutch Shell plc (NYSE: RDS-A) and Marathon Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: MPC) did not comment on the report from MarketWatch.
