August 10, 2015: Markets opened higher on Monday with the DJIA marching to a triple digit gain early and continuing to inch higher through the close. Today’s driver was Warren Buffett’s deal to acquire Precision Castparts for $37.5 billion. Buffett’s acquisition of an industrial company gave the entire sector–and the broader market–a lift today. Rising prices for crude oil helped as well. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded up 1.34% for the day, the S&P 500 traded up 1.22%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded up 1.10%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close Monday was Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) which traded up 3.87% at $80.28. The stock’s 52-week range is $74.77 to $109.73. Trading volume was was about 10% above the daily average of around 5 million. The company had no specific news today, but the Buffet acquisition and some encouraging words about commodity prices boosted the shares nicely.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) traded higher by 3.60%% at $119.68. The stock’s 52-week range is $94.84 to $134.54. Trading volume was about 5% above the daily average of around 47 million. The company received some analysts’ comments today essentially pointing out that the tech giant has bounced or is about to bounce or will soon bounce or something of a bottom. You did not read it here first.

The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) traded up 2.42% at $145.87. The stock’s 52-week range is $116.32 to $158.83.
