Across the globe, many powerful nations seek to expand their military power. Armies gain more troops and more powerful weapons, while Air Forces see advancements in fighter jet capability. Navies all over the world are also part of this advancement of power. Since WWII, America has spent great resources to enhance its naval force. As the most powerful nation worldwide, the United States owns some of the largest aircraft carriers. Unfortunately, rivals like Russia and China have had great success expanding their own navies. Combined, these nations currently possess more submarines and warships than American forces.

When it comes to these vessels that take to our seas, deploying troops and transporting necessary weapons, size is generally a positive factor. Many of these ships are downright massive, capable of supporting large numbers of troops and huge machinery. Though America owns many of these largest warships, so do many non-Nato countries.

24/7 Wall St. reviewed ship lengths worldwide, using data from Military Machine to determine the world’s largest warships. Military Machine also provides information regarding ship class, name, and country of origin. We included supplementary data on the country of origin, total navy, and overall military power ranking from GlobalFirePower’s 2024 Military Strength Index.
