We all remember the recent production challenges automakers faced due to pandemic-related supply chain disruptions, chip shortages, and other issues. Both new and used cars were in high demand, with supply struggling to meet that demand. Now it’s hard to believe that these days, certain cars can remain unsold on dealership lots for as long as four months.

In July 2023, new cars took longer to sell compared to 2022, with a 25.7% increase in the time they spent on the market, according to iSeeCars.com. The average selling period extended to 48.2 days, up from 38.4 days in 2022, and some cars took even longer to sell.

To find the slowest selling new car in America, 24/7 Wall St. consulted car research and sales site iSeeCars’ report, The Fastest- and Slowest-Selling New and Used Cars in Today’s Market. iSeeCars analyzed over 228,000 new and used car sales from July 2023, averaging the number of days that each model was listed for sale on iSeeCars.com.

The cars featured on this list took anywhere from 80 to 128 days to sell, exceeding the industry target of 60 days to sell, as mentioned in the study. Interestingly, despite the current SUV trend, fifteen of the 20 slowest-selling cars are SUVs, including the three slowest-selling ones. The remaining vehicles on the list include two sports cars, one pickup truck, one luxury sedan, and one subcompact EV.

Several brands have three models on the list each, including Ford, Jeep, Nissan, and Buick, while Lincoln and Infiniti have two. The car prices vary from well below the average of $43,205 in July 2023 to considerably higher. Fourteen of the 20 cars listed are priced above average, including two that are typically priced over $100,000.
