Smartphone pioneer Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ: RIMM) has been working for quite a while now on getting a new phone out the door with the company’s spanking new QNX operating system. It looks might be a while longer before a new device appears however.

According to this report, the company has cancelled two prototype devices, code-named Colt and Milan, due to lack of vendor enthusiasm. That leaves a single device in RIM’s arsenal, a smartphone code-named London, as the first device to use the new OS, BlackBerry 10.

London is reportedly being shopped to vendors now, and the single-device strategy, whether intentional or not, may be the best thing for RIM. After all, it works for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), which has introduced just one new iPhone at a time.
