The payload of an aircraft refers to fuel, cargo, passengers, and other items the aircraft needs to carry during its flight. For fighter jets, the payload includes weapons. The higher the maximum payload is for a fighter jet, the more lethal the weapons that the plane can carry. While some jets have a high maximum payload to carry ordnance, other aircraft may serve different purposes for various other missions. (Also see modern fighter jets ranked by speed.)

To find the fighter jets that can carry the most payload, 24/7 Wall St. referenced Military Factory, an online database of military vehicles, aircraft, arms, and more. We ranked aircraft by the maximum payload weight they could carry. Supplemental data regarding manufacturer, speed, and more came from Military Factory.
